What is Response to Intervention (RTI)? from Understood.org

The International Dyslexia Association – Provides resources for professionals and families dealing with individuals with reading disabilities.

The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators – Established and authorized expressly to set and maintain professional and ethical standards for the practice of the Orton-Gillingham Approach and to certify teachers and to accredit instructional programs that meet these standards.

Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) – A national professional member organization dedicated to the remediation of written language skills and certification of individuals trained in the remediation of written language skills.

Audio Information Network of Colorado – AINC is a not-for-profit organization and provides free access to recorded programming, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AINC’s mission is to provide news and information in audio format for the blind, low vision and print disabled community of Colorado.

Center for Inclusive Design and Engineering (CIDE) – Provides support materials to facilitate assistive technology use for home, school, work and play.

Colorado Talking Books Library –  A free service to Coloradans of all ages who are unable to read standard print material due to visual, physical or learning disabilities whether permanent or temporary. CTBL provides audio, Braille and large-print books and magazines.

Reading is not simply a desire; it is a fundamental skill necessary for virtually everything we do. And we need to ensure all of us, particularly our children, learn to read and read to learn so they too can do everything. That’s why the AFT is pleased to update and republish Teaching Reading Is Rocket Science, 2020: What Expert Teachers of Reading Should Know and Be Able to Do. This report, written by Louisa C. Moats (a teacher, psychologist, researcher, and professor who has been at the forefront of science-based reading instruction for five decades), translates the latest reading research into accessible language so that those of us who are not steeped in the pedagogy of reading can apply it to our own teaching and learning.
